New report proves the Steelers are interested in trading for Pro Bowl WR
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

They say that complacency kills greatness.

So coming off an offseason that included notable free agent acquisitions and a draft class that is widely regarded as one of the best of the 2024 cycle, Pittsburgh should be content with where their roster is at.

But that mindset is shortsighted, and the Steelers seemingly agree, as they are still big game hunting for a playmaker on the perimeter:

Steelers Show Interest in Broncos WR Courtland Sutton

A source told Touchdown Wire that the Steelers, as well as the Los Angeles Rams, reached out to the Broncos about Sutton both before and during the NFL Draft- they were both turned down. There are plenty of connections with Sutton and the Steelers. He and quarterback Russell Wilson have a great relationship, and Sutton caught the most touchdowns in his career in 2023 (10) with Wilson as his quarterback.

The report aligns with the recent mumblings and actions coming out of Pittsburgh. Before the draft, Pittsburgh restructured Alex Highsmith's contract to allocate an additional $7m in cap savings, opening the door to trade for a hefty salary with an effective cap space of around $18m.

Then on Monday, former Steelers DB Bryant McFadden threw up a tweet that the Steelers are very close to acquiring a premier talent at a playmaking position:

A source tells Touchdown Wire that Sutton and the Broncos are, in fact, not in good standing. The former Pro Bowl receiver wants a new contract, but the Broncos aren’t budging, citing the fact that Sutton still has two years left on his remaining deal.

A Pro Bowler in 2019, Sutton has been an underrated WR for some time. Playing with average QB play for the majority of his career, the 6-4, 215-pound WR is coming off one of the best seasons of his Denver tenure, recording a career-high 10 receiving TDs.

In the middle of his prime at 28 years old, pairing him alongside George Pickens with recently drafted WR Roman Wilson in the slot would form a trio that no defense wants to prepare for.
